The WAETAG Board is very excited to invite you to attend the upcoming 2008 WAETAG Conference “Gifted Now and Beyond." The conference will be held October 23-25 at the Lynnwood Conference Center in Lynnwood, Washington, approximately 15 miles north of Seattle. Registration is online our Conferences page.

The key presenters on both Friday and Saturday this year will be:

Dr. M. Elizabeth Nielsen is an Associate Professor of Special Education at the University of New Mexico (UNM) and serves as the coordinator for the Gifted Education Teacher Training Program. Dr. Nielsen has served as a UNM College of Education Assistant Dean for Research and is the recipient of the Burlington Foundation Faculty Achievement Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Dennis Higgins has authored and co-authored numerous articles and two book chapters that focus on twice-exceptional children, produced many educational video tapes, audio tapes, and music CDs which have national distribution and that contain his original music about gifted children and twice-exceptional children. He has also contributed to and consulted on the joint CEC/NAGC Twice-Exceptional guide.

About WAETAG

WAETAG is a non-profit Washington state organization which supports the education of gifted and talented persons through an annual conference for professionals and with a web site and newsletter filled with resources relevant to gifted youth and educators. Join this network of dedicated and concerned professionals who are continually striving to better meet the needs of gifted and talented youth in Washington State.

WAETAG is the cornerstone of three organizations whose main focus is gifted education in Washington State. (Washington Association of Educators for Talented and Gifted, Northwest Gifted Child Association and Washington Coalition for Gifted Education.

Major activities for WAETAG

  • Serving as a link between educators and parents for local, state, and national resources relating to gifted children and their education.
  • Providing an annual state-wide conference with nationally known speakers and Washington resources
  • Supporting the Leadership Conference for Gifted each summer in conjunction with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction's office
  • Regional meetings to share resources in various geographic areas around the state
  • Newsletter with relevant information about activities, curriculum, advocacy efforts at the state and national level
  • Participating on State Advisory Board for Gifted Education
  • Giving Gifted Student Scholarships for summer learning opportunities
  • Maintaining a web site with information on a variety of resources and contacts at the regional, state and national level
