We will have two distinct conference days: Friday, October 12
Friday will have three 90 minute breakout sessions. All sessions need to have an activity for conference participants, such as:
A hands on component with teaching tips and materials provided or a brainstorming/discussion component in small job-like groups. The sessions for teachers should pertain to the conference theme: Innovation & Equity, with ideas for the classroom.
For administrators, it should pertain to navigating the administrative side of program building.
Saturday, October 13
Saturday will have three 60 minute breakout sessions. Selections will be made based upon the following criteria:
The proposed breakout will support the conference theme.
The speaker has a history of doing especially high quality presentations.
The proposed breakout will support timely issues in the state and nation in gifted education.
The proposed breakout will facilitate understanding of the field to those new to gifted education.
The proposed breakout will target a key audience, such as parents, administrators, secondary teachers, etc. such that balance of breakout sessions provides something for the variety of conference attendees.
The proposed breakout would be especially meaningful and useful for teachers.
The proposed breakout helps provide balance for theory and practice for our conference attendees.
Selection tips: We value presenters that incorporate movement, interaction, sharing and don't just lecture/read slides. (Sitting and listening all day is hard for teachers, who are used to being the ones standing and talking!) Similarly, we avoid people who want to be there as a sales pitch for merchandise, rather than giving professional information.
